AC Milan traveled to Hellas Verona on the road yesterday night in pursuit of all three points to reclaim first place from Inter Milan, who played on Friday. Milan won 3-1 thanks to a brace from birthday boy Sandro Tonali, who performed the game of his life.
Milan took the lead via Tonali when Maignan lofted a pass across the pitch and the midfielder muscled it into the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out by VAR.
Verona responded quickly after we fell down 1-0, as Lazovic found Faraoni at the back post for an easy header. Just before halftime, Milan equalized when Tomori’s interception enabled him to unleash Leao on the wing, who squared the ball for Tonali to somehow smash into the back of the goal.
The Leao-Tonali relationship struck again early in the second half when Leao broke down the flank with a run and rolled the ball to the back post, where Tonali tapped in an easy tap in to take the lead.
Florenzi, who had just come off the bench and played his first minutes since his injury, scored the third goal, a stunning half-volley into the bottom corner after a great one-two with Messias.
The victory moves us closer to the championship, but the remaining two games are now deciders, with just two points between us and Inter, who might battle to the death.
