Villarreal qualified for the quarter-finals after the two home and away games with an aggregate of (4-1) as the first leg ended in a draw (1-1) at Villarreal.
Juventus thus failed to shake off the Champions League knot that has haunted him since his second and final trophy in 1996, and ended the journey again at the round of 16 round, as happened in the past two seasons at the hands of two teams that were also considered inferior to them, Lyon of France and Porto of Portugal respectively.
